Game Overview
Eclipse of Edenhorde is a card game currently in its Early Alpha release. It is set in the same fictional universe as the Edenhorde series, including the NFT collection, lore, and other media. Players get to immerse themselves further into the world of Edenhorde.
As an Oru Commander, the player leads their Oru tribe in a battle for dominance. Through strategic card-based 1v1 gameplay, players get to wield cards with specific stats and abilities in battle until they defeat their opponent.
Gameplay
Let's dive into the game's mechanics, cards, card abilities, and turn-taking.
Mechanics
The game takes place on a 2x4 grid where each player takes a side: the player who created the match shall be the Defender, while the other acts as the Attacker. Both players have 15 HP at the start. In order to win, you need to deplete your opponent’s health first.
Cards are strategically placed on the board, and they attack and/or defend against the card that is placed directly opposite to them. If the opposite card slot is empty, the attack directly hits the opposing player’s HP.
Cards
Each player is given a randomly generated deck of 24 cards at the beginning of the match, with 3 cards already drawn to their hand.
On every card, there are 3 values indicated (at the top left corner):
Card cost - this is the amount of units that a player needs to spend in order to play the card on the board. Card cost ranges from 1 to 7.
Attack value - this shows how much damage the card deals to the opposing card on the board. If there is no opposing card (the slot has been left empty), then the damage is dealt to the opposing player’s HP.
Health value - this shows how much damage the card can take before it dies
Card Abilities
Some cards have special abilities that get triggered either when the card is played or when it is destroyed. These are listed as symbols at the bottom right of the card. You can inspect a card while playing to learn more about its abilities.
Here is a list of abilities that some cards have:
Armoured
This nullifies the first attack received from an enemy card.
Brittle
This ability causes the card to self-destruct upon executing its first attack.
Guardian
This lets the card intercept and absorb attacks aimed at unopposed allies (when the card slot is empty).
Haste
This ability lets the card attack instantly without waiting for a turn to be activated.
Immortal
When the card with this ability is defeated, it returns itself to the player’s hand instead of the discard pile.
Intimidate
This reduces the attack power of the opponent card by -1.
Lifeline
On attack, this ability rejuvenates the player’s health equal to its attack value.
Mortal Blow
This ability carries the power to instantly obliterate any card that it strikes.
Ranged Attack
This ability lets the card bypass enemy cards and directly damage the opponent’s health.
Spiked
This inflicts 1 damage to its attacker as a form of retaliation.
Trample
The ability lets the card unleash fury so that excess damage will spill over to the opponent’s health.
Turn-Taking and Card Activation
Taking Turns and Spending Units
A turn consists of (1) drawing a card from their pile, (2) placing cards on the board (optional) by spending units, and (3) clicking the End Turn button on the right side of the screen.
Units that were not spent during a turn are carried over to the next turn, which means players can strategize by saving up a lot of units so they can spend further into the game.
The Defender always goes first, followed by the Attacker.
Activating Cards
Whenever a card is played, it stays dormant for one turn (you will see the card locked up on the board). This means that it cannot attack or be attacked. After one turn, the card becomes active. However, this does not apply to cards with the “Haste” ability, as they can immediately attack or defend without waiting for a turn in order to be activated.
Each turn is limited to 2 minutes. Once the timer runs out, both players’ actions are revealed and the turn is resolved. The players will keep taking turns until one of them goes down to 0 Health and is defeated.
Lobby
At the game’s lobby, you have the option to choose between 3 kinds of matches: Public where anyone can join, Private where you play only with people you invite, and Local where you battle against the CPU.
Getting Started
The game is currently in its Early Alpha release that is open for public access. To play the game, you simply need to go to their official website, and sign up by connecting your wallet or social accounts (Google, Twitch, or Discord).
Once you sign up, you will be able to access a helpful tutorial on how to play the game, play a trial match, then start playing against others in the lobby.
