About the game#Copy URL to this article section
Genopets is a move-to-earn mobile game where you get to nurture and explore the world with your Genopet. Your real life movements are tracked and can be converted into Energy that unlocks different aspects of the game. The game also features Habitats which are terrains where the pets live.
Both Genopets and Habitats are NFTs. If you have a pet but do not own a Habitat, don’t worry! It is possible to play the game without owning a Habitat. Check out their marketplace if you want to purchase your own Pet and Habitat.
The game has both a mobile app and a website. There are features in the app that you won’t find on the website and vice versa. As we discuss the different aspects of the game, we will also include where you can access the features described.

The game has two tokens: $KI and $GENE. The $KI token is the in-game utility token. This can either be harvested in the Habitat or bought (convert $SOL to $KI).
The $GENE token, on the other hand, is the governance token of the game. This can be used for crafting valuable items.

About the Genopet#Copy URL to this article section
The Genopet is a digital pet that can be nurtured, evolved, leveled up, upgraded, and customized (you can even change your pet’s name in the Settings). Upon opening the app, your pet is visible in the center of your screen. Your Genopet's appearance will change as it evolves.
The app's home screen
In your app’s homescreen, you will see your pet’s current level. Pets can progress through 12 stages and reach 78 levels. In order to level up your pet, you need Energy. Energy can be gained by banking steps or converting $KI into Energy.
If you have a Habitat, you can even customize your pet’s appearance by Alchemizing using Habitat Laboratory. Check out our Genopets guide on how to Alchemize using Habitat.

There are different things you can do in the game in order to level up your pet or harvest $KI tokens and more. Banking steps will allow you to convert those into Energy. You can also Nurture your pet—this improves your pet’s Mood and affects the conversion of steps into Energy.
First, make sure that you give the app the right permissions, then you can start banking your steps.
Managing your permissions#Copy URL to this article section
Since Genopets is a move-to-earn game, it needs your permission to access your physical activity information.
When you first install the app and open it, you will be prompted to grant permission for the app to access your physical activity data. Make sure you grant these permissions so that your app can bank your steps.
Note: With these permissions, the app’s step counter will run even if the game is not open or running on your phone. Without these permissions, you will not be able to bank your steps.

Banking Steps#Copy URL to this article section
The first time you open the app, you will be shown on your homescreen that you already have some steps counted. The game will prompt you to bank these steps so you’ll learn how to do it for next time.
Tutorial for banking steps
In order to bank steps, you simply need to hold down the BANK STEPS button until the stored steps are depleted.
The step counter resets every midnight at your local time zone so make sure you bank before it does! If you forget to bank your steps, you will no longer be able to convert them the next day.
In the app, you can also set a Step Goal. This feature allows you to customize the number of steps you want to take each day.
Convert Steps to Energy#Copy URL to this article section
By banking your steps, you convert them into Energy. This follows a simple conversion efficiency rate that depends on the level of your pet. This means that as you level up your pet, you will gain more Energy per unit step.

Convert Energy to Experience#Copy URL to this article section
If you want to level up your Genopet, you need to convert Energy into Experience. This is a crucial mechanic as it improves the conversion rate of your steps and unlocks more aspects of the game.
To do this, just head over to the Energy conversion tab found at the upper right of the screen. Use the round slider to manually adjust the amount of Energy you wish to convert as Experience or click the HALF or MAX buttons.
Daily Banking Rewards#Copy URL to this article section
Additional in-game bonuses can be achieved as long as you bank at least 1,000 steps once a day in the app. These rewards, including Food and Toys, are granted on a random basis and can be utilized in the new features of the game such as Playing and Feeding.

Mood & Nurture#Copy URL to this article section
The mood of your Genopet should be maintained in order to maximize the efficiency of your steps conversion. This mood is displayed as a heart icon at the top left corner of the screen and changes its appearance based on how your Genopet feels.
Before converting your steps to energy, check your pet’s mood and make sure it feels loved (appears as a bright green-colored heart).
A pet’s mood is determined by its Nutrition, Joy, and Love. Nutrition and Joy each account for 40% of overall Mood, with Love accounting for the remaining 20%. There are 3 Nurture actions that can affect your pet’s mood: Petting, Playing, and Feeding
You can do this in the app by swiping your pet using two fingers until no more floating hearts appear. This player action can increase Love.
Playing is a mini-game that requires a Toy. This will allow you to play fetch with your pet. Throwing a toy accurately will boost your pet’s Joy score
Feeding is a mini-game that requires you to throw Food to your pet. Completing this will result in an increase in Nutrition.

In the app, you can check out your Inventory to see the Food and Toys that you’ve collected as daily rewards for banking your steps.
Evolution#Copy URL to this article section
As you level up your pet, you can expect it to evolve after every 7 levels. Evolving will change the appearance of your pet including its size and attributes. The transformation happens automatically when it reaches the milestone levels so watch out and don’t miss this beautiful occurrence.
Refer to this chart for the Genopet levels and evolution stages.
Genopets Level Evolution Table
Alchemy refers to the Crafting System in Genopets that is only available for Habitat owners. This allows you to craft items that you can use for customizing your pet such as Augments, Reagents, and Cosmetics.
Augments are used to modify the body parts of your pet. By swapping these body parts, you can change your pet’s visual appearance and in-game attributes.
A Reagent is a compound that has been crafted and combined with other components to produce augments and other effect-producing items. This is also required for all Augment recipes.
Cosmetics#Copy URL to this article section
Cosmetics are used to modify Genopet's appearance, such as color and light lines. Adsynth and Subsynth Crystals are examples of cosmetics that can be used to change the primary or secondary shell colors of your pet.
And that’s everything you need to know in order to play Genopets! Get moving and keep those pets happy!
